OUR CLUB

Since 1970, a group of visionary businessmen, including Rodrigo and José María Crespo, Miguel Barzuna, Francisco Peña, Rodrigo De Bedout, and Edgar Jiménez, acquired a 100-block plot of land on the so-called Coco Highway, 7 kilometers west of San José. A beautiful area surrounded by mountains and forests, as well extensive green areas and abundant water. With a visionary and innovative idea for the time, designed by Architect Oscar E. Hütt, they agreed to create, in addition to the social club, hotel, residential complex and shopping center. This is how Ciudad Cariari was born, where the Cariari Country Club is located.
The Club was inaugurated in May 1973.

The total land where Cariari Country Club is located 43 hectares, which is equivalent to 30,000 square meters. It has an 18-hole golf course, designed by the famous North American golf course developer George Fazio, 12 tennis courts, Olympic swimming pool, gym, among other sports and social facilities for the enjoyment of members, guests.

The name Cariari was conceived as a tribute to the place where Christopher Columbus landed during his fourth voyage and which marked the discovery of Costa Rica, which was called by the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the territory as “Cariay” and which currently corresponds to Puerto Limón, whose quiet and hospitable beaches Christopher Columbus arrived on September 17, 1502. Eager to provide maintenance to his damaged ships, Columbus dropped anchor and stayed for twenty-two days, attracted by the beauty of the site and the warmth of the indigenous people, who treated him with singular courtesy.
